Yearly Tradition: The Swap Meet

I met up with my friends last weekend for our Christmas dinner and Swap Meet.
What's a swap meet? It's a barter of sorts and a really good way to declutter and get rid of things you don't really need with a chance that you get something good in return (if you have amazing friends like mine, you get really interesting things from the swap. I mean who gets Nars and Shu Uemura at a swapmeet? I do!).

What usually happens at a swap meet? We set a schedule ahead of time and tell our friends what categories we plan to bring. It's usually make-up that doesn't fit our skin type, books and accessories we've outgrown, clothes and shoes that we bought that don't really fit that well, stickers, stationery, recycled gifts that we don't want to throw away. It can be anything as long as it's still functional! It's a fun activity. Just make sure you don't fight with your friends over anything.

I forgot to take a photo of my swap meet loot but I got a nude lipstick, a Mac Illuminator, a new Roxy Swimsuit, Burt's bees toner, a gold necklace and a bunch of rings to name a few.

Quick Post: A Rainshower Themed Baby Shower

Last October, a friend and I organized a baby shower for our favorite pregnant friend, her husband and their little bundle of joy named Light. Check out their heartwarming, sometimes funny, journey to parenthood at http://www.lightong.com.

We had a month to prepare and decided to DIY almost everything from decorations to the giveaways.

For the giveaways, we were able to get these nice baby wipes in a can amd cute memo pads at a really low price in greenhills. But if you have the time and energy for it, I suggest you head over to Divisoria's 168 mall.

For the decoration, we made paper clouds in blue and white plus paper raindrops by following this helpful youtube tutorial

We also made an umbrella with "raindrops" to decorate the gift area. Got the umbrella from Daiso.

Got these shower themed table napkins from Rustans at Rockwell. It was such a hit with the guests.

DIY Guest Book c/o the mom to be

We prepared a couple of games such as:

Guess the chocolate poop
We melted/microwaved 4 kinds of chocolates and placed them on diapers. Guests have to guess all 4 correctly.

Bottle Drinking Game
This one proved difficult for the contestants. They had to finish a baby bottle filled with Pepsi.
Tip: place bigger holes on the nipples.

Dress the Baby
3 groups were given a roll of tissue, scissors, and tape and were tasked to design the best baby in diaper outfit. After the guests do a catwalk, the expectant mother will judge who wins.

Thor: The Dark World Movie Screening

I'm so excited to watch Thor on October 30. In between Halloween preps this is something to look forward to. Also, I've always been a huge Natalie Portman fan so this is such a treat.

Thanks to Globe and Nuffnang for the movie tickets!

The Irony: Attending A Globe + Nuffnang Event Without My Phone

Before I really get to the main idea of this post, I'd just  like to say that Nuffnang and Globe are the best! Globe's Go Bigger Movie Night was awesome! They gave out goodie bags (I was secretly hoping a free phone was inside with a free data plan!), had a free photo printing station where you can print your instagram photos and the highlight of the day, they gave away a Huawei Smartphone! I really wanted to participate in all these activities if only I hadn't forgotten my phone that day.

So there I was, in the midst of a Globe event, without my Globe phone. I felt like a caveman. While everyone else was taking advantage of all the perks modern technology had to offer, I had to content myself with watching other people, staring at Chris Hemsworth's Thor movie poster (which gets really old after a while no matter how handsome he was) and shifting uncomfortably from one foot to another. The truth is, a day without my phone was in some ways, crippling and in others, liberating.

A Surprise Movie Screening: Man of Steel

I headed off to Resorts World yesterday to attend a surprise movie screening courtesy of Nuffnang and Wacoal.

Side note: I was having a brand loyalty moment when (warning: TMI) I realized I was actually wearing my Wacoal undergarments.

A few days before the screening, we were already speculating which movie will be shown. We joked that it might be Juana Change but we were really hoping it would be Man of Steel. As luck would have it, we got our wish.

It was my first time to attend a Nuffnang movie screening and I didn't know what to expect. One of the things that I was totally not expecting was the popcorn. Two guys were hauling buckets upon buckets of popcorn inside the theatre and there I was holding a bucket of taco popcorn, realizing too late that we were getting free popcorn and drinks. I also didn't expect to see a cute kid in a superman costume alternating between running around and lying on the floor. The Nuffnang team were also very friendly and accomodating.

So thanks Nuffnang and Wacoal for a wonderful movie experience! Man of Steel was awesome, so awesome that no matter how much the enemies pounded, threw, punched and smashed Superman on the pavements and buildings, he never had a hair out of place.

Zombie Outbreak 5K Run and my first pair of running shoes

Judging from the number of people watching The Walking Dead (and all the zombie movies and series that came before it), it's safe to say that everyone is, at some level, fascinated by zombies and curious about their chances of surviving zombie apocalypse. So I decided to test my chances and did my first 5K run with Outbreak Manila and their Horde of 200 zombies.

At the start of the race, they give you three health flags attached to a belt. These serve as your life, and the zombies will try to grab them (instead of eating your brains so no need to panic).

If you run out of flags, you are considered "dead" but you can still finish the race.
But there are also obstacle courses along the path which you can go through to get extra health flags.

And there are also some really crazy characters in this race. I saw people dressed as Ronald McDonald, Son Goku, people in office attire, Fake Pregnant Runners, a Michael Jackson Zombie, A runner in a towel and shower cap, school girls, nurses, anime characters and a guy wearing nothing but a box!

Once the siren (ala silent hill) rang, I ran only to be stopped in my tracks by an eerie zombie bride. I panicked and so I lost a flag. The first 1.5km had me running out of breath as I played patintero (a local game involving good dodging skills which is explained here) with the Zombies.
