How to Help the Victims of Typhoon Yolanda

Watching the news about typhoon Yolana is too devastating.
We had to change the channel last night because the grief over our kababayans' plight was too much too handle.

If you've been looking for ways to help out, I compiled a few links below for organizations that you might want to donate to.

Philippine Red Cross: http://www.redcross.org.ph/donate.php
Accepts Donations in Cash and Kind
Via: Bank Deposits, Online Venues such as Paypal, 7-11, Cebuana Lhuillier, SMS and G-Cash
Will not accept old clothing as they already have too much on hand

De La Salle Community: http://delasalle.ph/news/2013/11/10/one-la-salle-relief-drive-yolanda
Accepts donations in cash and kind

The Atenean Community:
Accepts cash donations via bank deposits, online avenues, remittances, etc.

The Nuffnang Community: http://blog.nuffnang.com.ph/2013/11/11/yolandaph/
Accepts donations in cash and in kind.
You can drop off goods at their office in fort or donate via Paypal.
All goods will in turn be donated to Philippine Red Cross

Yabu House of Katsu: Dine for a Cause
100% of their profits in all their branches on November 13 will be donated to those affected by Typhoon Yolanda. It's a win-win situation. You get your Yabu katsu fix and still get to help those in need. Good job Yabu!

GMA Operation Bayanihan:
Accepts donations in cash and in kind
If for some reason you can't give cash donations, GMA lists down toiletries and other things you can send to help out the victims of Yolanda.

  • Bigas/Rice
  • Noodles
  • Bottled Water
  • Medicines/Gamot
  • Blankets/Kumot
  • Banig
  • Soap/Sabong Panligo at Panlaba
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste
  • New underwear
  • Towels
  • Slippers
Unicefhttp://donate.unicef.ph/campaign/24/typhoon-yolanda-emergency-appeal
Donations will go to providing safe drinking water, hygiene supplies, etc

Habitat for Humanity: http://www.give2habitat.org/philippines/ReBuildPhilippines
Donations will go to shelter repair kits to rebuild damaged houses

You can also check out this comprehensive list from Rappler, where relief efforts are listed by area so it's easier for you to find and access organizations through which you can help out.

A few reminders:

  • I read that there are more than enough clothes donated to this cause (via Red Cross) so please try to send food, water or cash instead.
  • GMA Operation Bayanihan is still welcome to accept clothing donations but please do not send costumes or party dresses or worn out clothing.
  • Please do not donate expired goods or goods that are about to expire.
  • If we cannot give in cash or kind, we can also give our time by volunteering
Will be adding to this list once I find more avenues for donation or relief efforts.
